Our Fine Arts Preschool provides children, ages 3 to 5 years, with abundant opportunities to experience creative movement, cooking, science, drama, music, and other languages like french and American Sign Language.
Fine Arts based preschools are becoming a popular choice for parents throughout Canada and we are pleased to offer the first and only northern BC based opportunity. PlayArts is proud to be a leader in this exciting educational experience.
The playArts curriculum is an emergent based curriculum where the instructors plan according to what the children are interested in. When the children are interested they tend to engage, focus, and retain more information.
Paining, sculpting, cutting, gluing… the possibilities are endless! Many different materials are available for the children to be creative and show their originality. Getting messy and learning new ways to create art is what we are all about.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT AND GYMNASTICS:
Introduce your child to the world of dance and creative movement. Through creative movement and gymnastics the children will learn coordination and body control. They will also enhance their balance, strength, flexibility, and agility. The children are able to move around freely as well as controlled gross motor activities. The children also participate in different kinds of dances while we listen to different music from around the world.
SIGN LANGUAGE & LITERACY:
On top of the essential English language skills we teach day-to-day, we also have specialty instructors teaching French and American Sign Language to broaden your child’s experience and comprehension. We also have drama, where the children experience acting and learn about the use of puppets, props and costumes. Learning to express their creativity through the use of words, both spoken and written, allows children to gain extraordinary understanding and knowledge.
COOKING AND SCIENCE:
Experimenting and exploring allow the children to discover new things for themselves and to understand how things work. The use of different ingredients and methods of creating allows the children to gain experience in problem solving, critical thinking and accomplishment.
In the preschool program the children learn to share the materials, to accept others ways of creating and to enjoy being a part of the group. The children learn to feel good about themselves and each other as they learn they can do things well and independently. Freedom to explore, make mistakes, and experiment is of immeasurable value as we move through life. The children can strengthen their independence skills by helping themselves before they ask for help. We show the children different ways they can do things on their own.
