POSITION TITLE: Gallery Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Peace Gallery North and Gift Shop

DEFINITION: Assisting in achieving the goals and objectives for successful operation of Peace Gallery North

DESCRIPTION: Part-time, Not-for-Profit organization, collective union agreement

WAGE RATE: DOE

REPORTING: Reports to the Gallery Manager

RELATIONSHIPS: Assists Gallery Manager in liaising with Peace Arts Gallery Society, Community Arts Organizations, Artists, Media, Professional Artists, Educators, Groups, Funders, Businesses and Patrons.

ART GALLERY

  • Assisting with the annual calendar of artist exhibits
  • Assisting with hanging, opening, sales and marketing success of gallery shows and exhibits
  • Assisting in creating new and exciting displays and spaces within the gallery
  • Helping with gallery tours
  • Assisting with the annual Christmas Market, running November through December, including merchandise, décor, volunteers, launch events, marketing, sponsor recognition, and other related duties

GALLERY GIFT SHOP

  • Customer service in Gallery gift store, including sales, display, and cash reconciliation
  • Assists with daily receipts and bank deposits
  • Performs sales clerk duties as required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

FUNDRAISING

  • Assists with the Peace Gallery Arts Society to produce the annual Chocolate Festival and the annual Art Auction events
  • Assists in soliciting donations and sponsorship for Chocolate Festival, Art Auction
  • Assists with developing additional fundraising opportunities

PROGRAMS

  • Assists with the development and implementation of identified arts/funding projects
  • Assists with art programs/workshops for children and adults of all different artist levels, including Let’s Art, ArtSpace and Professional Artist Series programming

MARKETING

  • Assists with creating and executing visual marketing items for the NPCC as requested
  • Assists with maintaining Social Media sites
  • Maintaining good relationships with arts and cultural groups, media, community groups, schools, and other related user groups or organizations

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of art gallery and visual arts, giftware/bookstore operations
  • Knowledge of marketing and display
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, artists, volunteers and patrons
  • Graphic Design capabilities and experience an asset
  • Computer and software competencies, experience with the POS system Masterpiece would be an asset
  • Social Media and/or website experience
  • Effective communication skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Ability and willingness to work both independently and in a collaborative environment, and work in accordance with NPCC’s guiding principles
